Considering Surgical Referral?

We offer complimentary reviews of radiographs and diagnostics to help you decide if a surgical referral is appropriate. When surgery is needed, we often accommodate expedited or same-day scheduling, depending on case urgency and availability.

Recommended Pre-Surgical Diagnostics

For most elective orthopedic cases, we recommend completing the following before referral:

  • CBC, biochemical profile, and urinalysis (UA) with culture when indicated.
  • Thoracic radiographs may be recommended for cancer patients or pets over eight years of age.
  • A thorough skin examination can help prevent day-of cancellations related to pyoderma.

Joint replacement cases require digital radiographs with a calibration marker. These images are often repeated at our facility to ensure the necessary measurements are accurate.

What Happens After Surgery?

Our relationship with your practice continues after the procedure. Clients receive detailed discharge instructions and a care summary. Whenever possible, we prefer an in-person follow-up to assess healing and progress.

If distance hinders an in-person visit, we offer free email review and interpretation of radiographs. For surgical cases, we typically recommend a follow-up radiograph 6–8 weeks post-surgery.

A Fax-Free Hospital

To help streamline communication, Swiftcurrent Veterinary Specialists is a fax-free hospital. Please send medical records and referral information by email to info@swiftcurrentvets.com. Clients may also hand-carry hard-copy radiographs and written records when scanning isn't an option.

Transparent Pricing and Thoughtful Care

Every surgery and procedure is different, so costs vary based on the procedure’s complexity, resources, and time needed. We prioritize transparent estimates, often overestimating and refunding the difference rather than surprising clients with unexpected charges.

Patients typically stay overnight post-surgery for safety and comfort; at-home care may be an option for suitable candidates upon request.
